At the launch event of his son Junaid Khan’s debut film Loveyapa, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan made an unexpected revelation: he has quit smoking. Known for his disciplined approach to life and work, Aamir admitted that giving up the habit was something he had been considering for a while.
While addressing the media, Aamir shared that he felt this was the right time to make a change. “I’ve been thinking about quitting for a long time,” he said. “I decided to quit before Junaid’s film release because I wanted to make a fresh start for myself. It felt like the right moment.”
A Candid Confession
Aamir also talked about his history with smoking. “I’ve enjoyed smoking over the years, but I knew it wasn’t good for me,” he confessed. “It’s a bad habit, and I’m glad I’ve finally been able to let it go. It wasn’t easy, but sometimes you have to make tough decisions for the people you love.”
Interestingly, Aamir connected his decision to a personal promise. “Maine apne dil mein mannat maangi (I made a wish in my heart),” he said, referring to his decision to quit smoking as a sort of vow. The star seemed optimistic and proud of taking this step.
A Funny Memory with Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan
While reminiscing about his journey with smoking, Aamir shared a funny incident from the sets of Thugs of Hindostan. The story involved none other than Bollywood’s megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir’s good friend Shah Rukh Khan.
Back in 2018, while filming in Malta for the action-packed drama, Aamir found himself in a tricky situation. He wasn’t sure if it was okay to smoke in front of Amitabh, a legend known for his dignified demeanor. Not knowing what to do, Aamir called Shah Rukh for advice.
Shah Rukh, who had worked with Amitabh in Mohabbatein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, had a playful response. “He told me, ‘Amit ji is cool. You can smoke in front of him. If he scolds you, just run away,’” Aamir recalled with a laugh.
Things took a hilarious turn when Amitabh himself found out about the conversation. Aamir shared, “One day, we were watching Wonder Woman during the shoot, and Amit ji suddenly said, ‘I heard you asked Shah Rukh if you can smoke in front of me.’ I didn’t know where to look! But Amit ji was chill about it.”
A New Chapter for Aamir
Aamir’s decision to quit smoking comes at a time when he’s gearing up to support his son’s debut. Junaid’s romantic comedy, Loveyapa, is set to release soon, and Aamir’s presence at the trailer launch made it even more special.
