Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan is on the mend after a terrifying attack in his Bandra West apartment. The actor, known for his charming on-screen presence, faced a life-threatening situation early Thursday morning when an intruder stabbed him six times, including a deep wound to his neck.
The attack happened around 2:30 am while Saif was at home with his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and their two young sons, Taimur and Jeh. The family lives in a luxurious 12-floor building in Mumbai’s upscale Bandra West area.
The injuries were severe, but Saif’s resilience has stunned everyone. Doctors at Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery, have said his recovery so far is remarkable.
A Narrow Escape
Dr. Nitin Narayan Dange, one of the lead doctors treating Saif, shared that a 2.5-inch piece of the knife was lodged dangerously close to his spine. “We performed a five-hour surgery to remove the blade fragment,” he said. “If the knife had gone just 2 mm deeper, it could have caused severe complications, possibly paralysis. But thankfully, he is out of danger.”
Saif has already been moved from the ICU to a private room, though visitor restrictions remain in place. “The wound in his spine needs careful monitoring to prevent infection,” Dr. Dange explained.
Hospital officials spoke highly of Saif’s courage. Niraj Uttamani, Lilavati Hospital’s COO, recalled how the actor walked into the hospital on his own despite being covered in blood. “He walked in like a lion, refusing a stretcher. That’s true bravery,” Uttamani said.
Recovery and Optimism
Dr. Dange mentioned that Saif is recovering well and can walk without much difficulty. “He’s in good spirits and isn’t experiencing much pain,” he added. However, the doctors have emphasized the importance of rest, especially given the potential risk to his spine.
Family members, including Saif’s eldest son Taimur, have been by his side throughout this ordeal. Kareena Kapoor Khan has not made any public statements but is reportedly ensuring Saif gets all the care he needs.
