Actor and director Akashdeep Sabir stirred up a storm with his comments on the recent stabbing incident involving Saif Ali Khan. Speaking with Lehren Retro, Akashdeep took a dig at Saif’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, after the shocking attack on the actor at his home.
In an interview that raised eyebrows, Akashdeep said, “Kareena charges ₹21 crore per film, yet she couldn’t afford a watchman outside her house.” This statement came in light of the incident that occurred in January, when Saif was attacked by an intruder in the early hours of the morning. The intruder tried to rob Saif’s home, stabbing him multiple times. Though Saif was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery, he was later discharged after a few days.
Akashdeep’s taunt did not stop there. He further questioned why the couple didn’t have a full-time driver or a security guard for protection at night. He added, “When you pay them ₹100 crore, maybe then they can afford proper security.” His comments quickly became a topic of discussion, with many fans weighing in on the matter.
While it might have sounded like a direct jab, Akashdeep was also commenting on the larger issue of celebrity security. He mentioned how, despite having 30 CCTV cameras, Saif and Kareena were still vulnerable. “A CCTV can’t stop a crime, it only helps after the fact,” he pointed out. His words highlighted the importance of physical security beyond just surveillance.
Akashdeep’s remarks were made in the context of a wider conversation about gender pay disparity in Bollywood. His wife, Sheeba, spoke about how male actors are paid more than their female counterparts, especially when a movie flops. While Akashdeep agreed to some extent, he also remarked that pay parity began only when stars like Kareena started asking for higher fees.
