Factory in Tamil Nadu
VinFast is not just building showrooms. It is also investing in local manufacturing. The company recently opened its first factory in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin), Tamil Nadu. This is VinFast’s first plant outside Vietnam.
The factory is built over 400 acres of land. It will assemble the VF 6 and VF 7 models. Initially, the plant will have a production capacity of 50,000 units per year. The capacity can later grow to 150,000 units annually.
The factory is part of a $500 million investment, which is the first phase of a planned $2 billion project. VinFast expects to create over 3,000 direct jobs at this facility.

EV Market Impact
VinFast’s India entry comes at a time when electric vehicle demand is rising. The company plans to make India a manufacturing and export hub for nearby regions such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, Mauritius, the Middle East, and Africa.
By opening a showroom in a key metro city like Chennai and launching local assembly, VinFast is clearly serious about India. The presence of international EV brands is expected to increase competition and give Indian customers more choices.
