Konkona Sensharma Talks About Her 20 Years in Bollywood and Missing Irrfan Khan on the Set of Metro…In Dino

Konkona Sensharma has come a long way in her career, marking a significant milestone of 20 years in the Hindi film industry. The actress, known for her brilliant performances in films like Mr and Mrs Iyer and Page 3, reflects on her journey so far and her upcoming projects, including the much-anticipated Metro…In Dino, the sequel to the 2007 hit Life In A Metro.

Looking back at her early days in the industry, Konkona remembers how uncertain she was about acting. She admits, “I hadn’t thought of it as my Bollywood debut or anything like that. I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to be an actor or pursue a regular job.” She had always seen acting as a temporary option. However, her experience during the making of Page 3 changed everything. She recalls, “It was during Page 3 that I really got to know Mumbai. I explored the city with director Madhur Bhandarkar and his assistant, traveling by local trains. It was an eye-opening experience. I met new people, made great friends like Tara Sharma and Sandhya Mridul, and it felt like I was meant to stay in this world of acting.”

The film not only introduced her to the hustle and bustle of Mumbai, but also to the idea of making acting her career. It was after Page 3 that Konkona decided to settle in the city and fully dive into the film industry.

Having established herself as a serious actress over the years, Konkona talks about how the industry’s perception of her has evolved. “Even when I was younger, I never really worried about what the industry thought of me,” she says. “I always believed the industry isn’t one single entity; it’s a mix of different things, and I don’t have control over how people perceive me. I’m just glad I’ve been accepted, especially since many talented actors don’t always get the recognition they deserve.”

While Konkona has always stayed true to herself, she’s also been part of some big projects, including the highly anticipated Metro…In Dino. Directed by Anurag Basu, the movie is a sequel to Life In A Metro, a film that captured the essence of modern relationships and urban life. Konkona is the only actor returning for the sequel, which has her excited but also nostalgic.

In an emotional interview, Konkona shares that shooting for Metro…In Dino without the legendary Irrfan Khan was especially difficult. “I really missed him a lot,” she says. “Irrfan was a special person. He was more than just a colleague. I think about him often, and there are moments when I feel his absence deeply. His presence was so calming, and he brought so much warmth to the set. It just wasn’t the same without him.”

Despite missing Irrfan, Konkona expresses her admiration for director Anurag Basu. “I love Anurag. He’s such a lovely person to work with—so relaxed, so stress-free. He knows his craft inside out. Working with him always feels like a breeze. There’s no pressure at all. I don’t feel like I’m carrying any responsibility being the only actor from the first movie. It’s all in Anurag’s hands. He’s the one who makes the magic happen.”

With Metro…In Dino and other exciting projects lined up, Konkona is grateful for the career she’s built over the years. As someone who values quality over quantity, she remains humble, saying, “I feel lucky that I’ve been able to be part of such diverse roles and projects. Not every actor gets that opportunity.”

Looking ahead, Konkona’s journey is a testament to the power of authenticity and staying true to one’s craft, no matter the odds. The actress continues to prove that with talent, determination, and the right projects, the sky is the limit.

As fans eagerly await her return in Metro…In Dino, there’s no doubt that Konkona Sensharma will continue to leave an indelible mark on the industry for many more years to come.
