Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia is preparing for her big leap from television to films. The talented actress, known for her role on TV, is all set to make her film debut in the upcoming Punjabi movie Shaunki Sardar, where she’ll star alongside popular singer and actor, Guru Randhawa. While her career is taking a new turn, Nimrit admits that she still hasn’t fully processed the change. “I still can’t believe it. Just recently, I attended a screening, and it hit me that in just three months, I’ll be on the big screen. It’s a dream come true,” she shares excitedly.
Making a transition from TV to films is no easy feat, especially when there’s often a stigma associated with being called a ‘TV actor’. Some actors who make this switch tend to distance themselves from their TV roots, thinking it will help them fit in better with the film industry. But Nimrit has a completely different perspective. She doesn’t shy away from acknowledging her television background, something she feels proud of.
“I’ve never looked down on TV,” she says firmly. “TV is where I began, and I’ve always believed that no medium is better than the other. The way I’ve been raised, it’s about doing your best with whatever you’ve got. For me, television gave me my first chance. It’s where I was discovered, and I’m forever grateful for that.”
Nimrit’s stance is refreshing in an industry where actors often shy away from admitting their roots in television. She understands that television has given her the platform to reach where she is today. Despite the fact that there’s a certain mindset in Bollywood that looks down on TV actors, Nimrit has no hesitation in embracing her journey.
While many actors who move from TV to films prefer to distance themselves from their past, Nimrit’s approach is rooted in gratitude and respect for the platform that helped shape her career. “I’ve been in the industry for a while now, and I’ve seen how some people treat TV actors when they step into films. It’s disheartening. But I think that’s the problem, not with TV or the actors, but with how people view it,” she explains.
It’s not just about acting. It’s also about the hard work and dedication that TV actors put into their roles. Nimrit points out how TV actors often work long hours, facing a grueling schedule with little time for rest. But that doesn’t seem to be enough for some who look down on the medium. “It’s tough, and people forget how much effort goes into a daily show. But instead of respect, there’s often ridicule. That needs to change,” she says passionately.
Nimrit adds that her move into films wasn’t planned as a way to escape the TV tag. It was simply a natural progression for her. She’s been open to exploring different roles in various mediums, and she’s now taking on a new challenge in the film industry. “It was always about growing as an actor, about exploring new opportunities. The film industry is just another space for me to experiment and do different kinds of roles.”
She also admits that the film industry can be challenging in its own right. But for her, it’s all about learning and evolving with each new project. Whether it’s TV or films, Nimrit is determined to make her mark.
For now, the excitement for Shaunki Sardar is palpable, and Nimrit is thrilled about the journey ahead. She’s excited to see her work on the big screen and hopes it will inspire others to appreciate both mediums for their unique qualities.
